XTR - Torque Reduction Solution
THE PROBLEM
When torque requirements are marginal, focus is typically placed on drilling activities. However, leaving torque reduction tools out of the drill string on marginal wells can prove a costly error. Especially in wells where the top drive is already installed, and replacement is economically and operationally expensive.
AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW
Unlike existing torque reduction solutions, which are typically installed directly onto the pipe having personnel in the red zone, the short length of the XTR sub enables installation of a sub between each joint of drill pipe. When correctly placed in the drill string, the XTR sub reduces drill string torque losses by as much as 40% across the section of drill string where the tools are located, giving on average of around 20-25% more MSE at bit.
OUR SOLUTION
The advanced XTR sub is unique and has been specifically developed as an enabling solution to the needs of clients with complex, challenging well trajectories. Wells typically defined as ERD, as well as any well where the torque loading is expected to be close to top drive (TDS) or rotary table torque limits. The XTR sub introduces is the industry’s shortest torque reduction tool length with the highest dynamic side load capacity, enabling adequate spacing within the stand of drill pipe, without having to compromise on sub placement or juggle reduction subs on tripping and managing any extreme ERD type well with excessive side loads.
