X3D - Anti Vibration Solution
THE PROBLEM
The interaction of the BHA or drill-string with the wellbore can cause significant levels of vibration (HFTO), lateral, whirl and axial harmonics, particularly true when drilling high compressive strength rock. For bits & BHA electronic components this can be an extremely destructive and damaging potentially leading to NPT (unplanned trips out of hole).
AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW
We know that the chaotic vibrating behavior of the string are very unpredictable and difficult to control and that the current approach is to adapt the drilling parameters to reduce as far as possible the vibrations. What if we were able to reduce the intensity of the vibrations? To suppress the occurrence of detrimental vibrations, enabling maximum energy to be delivered to the bit face, irrespective of changes in formation or bedding plane interactions?
OUR SOLUTION
The X3D sub is deployed directly above the bit or at the top of the BHA and acts as a de-coupling mechanism, minimizing axial, lateral & tortional vibration transmission. The X3D sub provides a barrier between the dynamics of the drill bit or drill-string from impacting the life expectancy of the BHA. Whilst enabling the most efficient transfer of torque & weight (MSE) to the bit to improve drilling performance, overcoming the destructive feedback loop between the bit and the top drive. Inserted into the BHA it removes chaotic motion and allows the bit to follow a more predictable course. The unique X3D anti-vibration sub is the result of a multi-year development and takes downhole vibration mitigation to the next level with full 3D (axial, later, & tortional) compliance.
